Silent Hill 4: The Room, refreshing or ridiculous?

Post by Kumiko on Tue Nov 24, 2009 10:52 am

I personally liked the game alot! Story was great characters ok, Henry yes gormless but still funny.

Repeating areas was tiresome and annoying but overall I did enjoy it I agree on the inventory thing tho

Silent Hill 4: The Room, refreshing or ridiculous?

I really like SH4 a lot, though I can understand why a lot of people do not like it.

I find the game to be really fascinating, and I love the feeling it gives, its just different then anything that I have ever seen (though I don't know if there is anything else like it out there, I've never looked). I love the "ever downward" stair segments after revisiting each world, and I love the music / ambiance in the game.

Oh, and I really like t he gameplay in it too, once I get the little axe, I'm unstoppable 8-)

All in all though, I really love SH4. I won't say its my favorite, cause I don't think I have a favorite SH game, since each one deals with a different theme and ideas, that all really appeal to me :)

Wait... the weapons can break!? Goes to show how much i fight in those games...

Anyway, I am another who likes SH4. It (IMO) was more disturbing than the others since you were not traversing your mind but that of a killers. Walter's world was probably the darkest of them all (especially seen in the spiral staircase parts) and I love the fact that Henry is dragged into the act and not "called" into it. Or rather, it was unlucky that he moved into the same room as Joseph.

The golf clubs break after some use. It's really annoying, because they will still be in your inventory, taking up space. You have to drop them in the case in Teh Room. I don't use them, for that reason alone. They're pretty effective weapons, nice range.

The bottle will eventually break, too. But it's not useless, it can still be used as a weapon. In fact, I believe it deals more damage after it's broken.

Funny. A golf club can break but a RUSTED ax can't?

Haha...axes, rusty or otherwise, are a little more sturdy and stout; the golf clubs are kind of brittle and thin, so it's a little more understandable to see them "break" when striking an enemy.

...although, they don't really break, they're just sort of bent. I don't get why a bent golf club is useless! If anything you'll be able to hit things behind you a little better. Hooray curvature!

!@#$%^&*()(*&^%$##$%^! Moths! I guess they are moths. I hate 'em! The ghosts are pretty damn annoying, the repeating levels are annoying. The reason all these things really bother me is, the game is actually pretty damned cool. Goin back and forth between the worlds and the room to manage yer inventory and to get around obstacles is cool. The monsters, could've done without the pussywillows and the bird moths or whatever. The nurses looked like undead Ru Pauls so that was extra creepy. The dogs were cool but, I think I was more threatened by LIttle Big Planet. I LOVED the Locane kid monster, It stops and points at you, *shudder*! The slugs were pointless, just kinda made the game longer stompin on them to get past them. The shit you have to go through to get out of each level is awesome. I played it without the guide, as I always do, and it took for ever. Once I knew where I was going though, the monsters were more nuisance than nemesis. Unless of course they were a ghost. The monkey short bus passenger monsters were cool but they were only a threat in large groups or paired up with dogs. And am I the only one that noticed how ballsy the dogs get when the monkey men are around? Odd! Monsters are prolly 75 percent of the gameplay in a silent hill game, not in the total content sense, but in the importance sense. If the monsters suck, the game is gonna suck. But I still think that the new Ideas make it worth playing again. If I play it though, I get done with the hospital and then I get out another game. I can't take goin through the same 4 levels a different way. Especially not with Eileen slowin you down unless you want the dead Eileen endings. The familiar ghosts are so damned needy, you'd think Henry popped their cherry. And they are everywhere in the return levels. But like I said, It is a damn cool game. I think it is refreshing, until I repeated the levels, that's not refreshing. By the way, I saw a bunch of people talking about the boss fight being the best of all the games, I don't remember it being so great. This is how I remember it: You stick a buch of spears in Walter's ugly ass momma's neck while he tries to shoot you and Eileen does her lemming impression. I don't even remember getting to kill Walter myself. I don't wannaact like one of these douches that thinks their opinion is a provable fact, but could someone explain that? I guess I should start a thread huh?

It may sound weird but I love the most frustrating games and I certainly enjoyed this one. The ghosts sucked ,but I loved whipping the crap out of them for an hour shouting, "Stay down!..... I said stay down dammit!!! :x " Sometimes they would stay down. (no seriously!) Of couse this made my family think I needed counseling. Although the repeting levels were lame. Eileen, even though she was slow, didn't anger me as much as Ashley from RE 4. Overall it is one of my favorites. Not the greatest of all time but pretty damn fun.
I am the third. A master. A sentinel of awakeness. I hold truth like a torch. Shadows flicker before me. Rapid eye follow the chain of thought until the silence ends
